STEPS BIO:
STEPS is a group of five supremely talented individuals, namely - Lisa (24), Claire (21), H (23), Faye (22) and Lee (24).
STEPS has had an exciting year since the release of their successful debut single "5,6,7,8" in early 1998. This catchy tune sold over 300,000 copies in the UK alone! "Last
Thing On My Mind", Steps' second single, broke records with sales over of 325,000 copies in the UK. The single entered the UK singles chart at #6 and remained in the Top 10 for three weeks. "5,6,7,8" was a #1 single while "Last Thing On My Mind" was in the Top 5 in Australia's ARIA chart. Still not satisfied, Steps' third single, "One For Sorrow" peaked at #2 in the UK chart during the summer of 1998 and was awarded 4th place in the 1998 Record of the Year contest.
After massive success with 3 hit singles, Steps released their debut album "Step One" in mid-1998, which debuted at #2 in the UK Album chart. They followed up the album with a double-A sided single "Heartbeat/ Tragedy", which reached the coveted #1 position in the UK singles chart in January 1999! The single also charted at #1 in New
Zealand and Hong Kong. Their last single, "Better Best Forgotten", debuted at #2 in the UK singles chart.
Still more of the Steps for this year is captured in the "Steps - The Video"!!! The video manages to somehow cram most of the past twelve crazy months into around 80 minutes of fun-filled Step-tastic action. There are all five Steps videos, of course, including 'One For Sorrow', which stayed at No.1 on The Box for a month; the hilarious new 'Tragedy' video with wedding capers galore, and Steps' debut '5,6,7,8', plus loads of backstage shenanigans at each video location. But in addition, there's some amazing and exclusive behind-the-scenes footage, Steps as you've never seen them before and some peeks into the private lives of the five people who make up the World's favourite new pop group.
Throughout 1998 and early 1999, Steps made numerous successful promotional trips around Asia, Australia and Europe, garnering mass support and fans in the process.
"Step One" has sold over 2.5 million units worldwide, including 700,000 units in the Asia-Pacific region alone!! The album is currently certified Gold, Platinum or
Multi-Platinum in several countries (see the Stepsography list).
Steps began their 1999 summer tour as the support act with Britney Spears in the USA and Canada. They also be released their second album later that year and will be performing in a series of concerts now and in the future.
